Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy
The Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy Program connects Maryland’s veterans, service members, and their families with the benefits, services, and supports they have earned. The Program raises awareness of federal, state, and local resources, gathers feedback from the veteran community about unmet needs, and shares that feedback with partner agencies and policymakers to improve services.
What We Do
Our team leads a variety of communication and engagement activities, including:
Veteran Newsletter – A subscription based electronic publication distributed statewide with important news, events, and resources for veterans and military families.
Digital Platforms – Management of the Maryland Veterans website (veterans.maryland.gov) and official social media channels to share updates and resource information.
Outreach Materials – Development and distribution of materials such as postcards, flyers, and handouts to spread awareness of benefits and services available in Maryland.
Public Relations & Media – Engagement with media outlets and preparation of public information to keep the community informed.
Community Briefings & Events – Staff briefings, presentations, and participation in community and partner events to share information about Maryland benefits and programs.
Partnerships & Representation – Serving as the Department’s representatives on commissions, councils, and boards to ensure veterans’ needs are heard across government and partner organizations.
How We Can Help
Whether you’re a veteran, family member, service provider, or organization:
Stay informed – Sign up for our newsletter for the latest news, events, and resources.
Invite us to your event – We can provide briefings, staff booths, or informational materials for community events, job fairs, and resource expos.
Provide feedback – We welcome input on unmet needs and service gaps affecting Maryland’s veteran community.
